Passport and visa
Spain is a member of the European Union (Schengen). Passport holders from a Schengen country as well as from North America, Canada, Japan, Switzerland and Australia do not need a visa to enter Spain.
Citizens of some non-EU countries may need a visa. Check passport and visa requirements in due time before your departure. If needed, please contact the nearest Spanish Embassy or Consulate to your home for further information. For more information you can also check these links:
Information to Foreign Citizens
The conference organizers will send out an official Letter of invitation and a Schedule of stay upon request to help overcome administrative difficulties in certain countries. Please follow the instructions in this document (Visa Request). This invitation will not imply any obligation from the Organization to provide any kind of financial contribution. Requests must be made by fax or e-mail (info.iit2012@evento.es) and should include:
- Full name as listed in your passport
- Passport Number
- Nationality
- Date of birth
- Contact (email and phone)
In a few days you will receive the documents by e-mail. Please send confirmation of reception.
Insurance
The conference organizers cannot accept liability for personal injuries sustained, or for any personal injury, loss, damage, accident to private property or additional expense incurred as a result of delays or changes in air, rail, sea, road or other services, strikes, sickness, weather or any other cause. Please, check the validity of your own insurance.
Language, currency and time
The official language spoken in Spain is Spanish.
The official currency in Spain is the EURO (€). Other currencies will not be accepted during the conference.
Valladolid is in the Central European Time Zone, 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT + 1)
Electricity
The electricity is distributed in Spain at 220 Volts and 50 Hz. Two types of plugs are used: CEE 7/16 and CEE 7/4. Plan to bring an adaptor for your electrical appliances or electronic equipment using different voltage.
Telephone
For international calls to Spain, dial the international code 0034 and the correspondent number. For international calls from Spain, dial 00 followed by your correspondent international code and number.
Climate
Situated 200 km from the north coast of Spain and around 720m above sea level on the central plateau, Valladolid has a continental climate with cold winters and warm summers. The weather in Valladolid in June is usually warm and sunny. The daily temperatures are ranging from 20°C to 25°C, while night temperatures are usually between 10°C to 15°C.
Meal times
In Valladolid, as in the rest of the country, meals are usually eaten later than in other countries. Breakfast is usually eaten between 08:00 and 10:00, lunch is eaten between 14:00 and 15:00 and dinner between 21:00 and 22:00. However, restaurant opening times are adapted to fit in with the working day and lunch can be eaten between 13:00 and 15:00; dinner is available from 21:00 to 23:30.
Shop opening times
The shops in Valladolid open at 09:00 or 10:00 and close for lunch at 14:00. They reopen in the afternoon between 17:00 and 17:30 and stay open until 20:00 or 20:30. The large shopping centres and department stores do not close at lunchtime. Only certain shops and all the large department stores are open on Saturday afternoon. They all close on Sunday except on certain dates when they have a special opening licence.
